GROUND-UP SUBSTATION
Overview
-
Project scope included the replacement of an existing outdoor switch with a new single-ended 35KV substation. Prepared for future expansion, the scope included other buildings and a separate redundant utility 35KV source.
-
Key to success was the partnership of CBRE, ALLY, KTR and our subcontractor subject matter experts to keep the client site operational while performing the temporary switch replacement and utility upgrades.
-
Overcame design, budget, schedule and space allocation challenges.
-
Successfully provided solution for placement of a 144,000 LB piece of equipment in an area with utilities that were not picked up by ground penetrating radar. Once unforeseen utilities were found, the entire building was to be relocated 20’ prior to a concrete pad being excavated. This affected all the conduit routing and lengths.
-
Due to COVID, the project endured manufacturing, materials and component shortages. To mitigate risk to the project schedule, a purchase order with an equipment manufacturer for over $1.2MM was written with a placeholder fabrication date, while the final design was being completed. The construction underground work commenced to meet the equipment delivery. Project was completed safely, on time and under budget.
